Blogging prediction
Posted By: Ken McGee, VP & Gartner Fellow
Ed, Adam and Esteban,I’d like to get the ball rolling on blog contributions based upon your prediction:
"Blogging and community contributors will peak in the first half of 2007"
Your piece states: "Community involvement varies, with fewer than 2% of all Internet users acting as frequent contributors, between 10% and 15% contributing occasionally and more than 50% lurking, reading or watching what the communities are discussing."
Aside from gaining insight about those inclined to blog, what further insight will marketers gain from a large but perhaps similarly minded group of potential consumers? After the first million bloggers, do the next five million reveal anything more clarifying about their demands?
Also, what kind of resources are marketers currently devoting to blogs? How seriously do they take them? Can you describe metrics to help us understand how this is beyond a blip on their radar?
Also, is there anything on the radar that will be so captivating that it will divert the attention of bloggers to this more-attractive activity?
Congratulations on the prediction!
Ken
